Before & After

Before and after photos of these real-life kitchen makeovers let you see the power of making small changes to produce practical, yet dramatic transformations. These renovation projects reflect the personal styles, tastes, and needs of each individual homeowner so whether you seek a contemporary, country, or traditional look, ‘A Place to Call Home’ can coach you in the selections that define ‘Your Place to Call Home.’

Kaiser Kitchen

Before:
"
Cramped work areas were made even more awkward by the unfortunate placement of the door to the dining room which required traffic through the middle of it all (out of view on the left), an extra large pantry stored lots but without organization (behind stove), and appliances, cabinets, flooring, and countertops were in need of replacing.”

After:
"Bumping the kitchen out a mere 56 square feet and reconfiguring the layout and the dining room doorway gives this 2-cook kitchen maneuverability with several work stations, well-thought-out planning for the custom cherry cabinets has ‘a place for everything and everything in its place,’ and the ‘wow’ continues with top-of-the-line appliances, traditional tile backsplash, red oak floors, hidden electrical strips instead of outlets, and a granite-topped baking cart that rolls out from under the island when needed.”

Schmaltz Kitchen

Before:
"Kitchen was closed off from the living room, refrigerator was in the way of a main doorway, and old cabinets didn’t provide useful storage.”

  After:
"
Removing the wall behind the stove opens up the whole space, moving the awkward refrigerator over to the center of the back wall and surrounding it with pantry units eases traffic to the back hall, and new cherry cabinetry with mostly drawer storage creates a more user-friendly kitchen.”

Schacht Kitchen

Before:
"A typical split-level home with the kitchen at the top of the stairs separated the cook from the living room, a peninsula with upper cabinets blocked out the eating area, and cabinetry, flooring, and countertops were ready for an update.”
  After:
"Creating a pass-thru in the living room wall opens the kitchen up to morning sunshine and entertaining.  Removing the peninsula and upper cabinets, adding cabinets and deep countertops under the pass-thru, and moving the refrigerator closer to the table eases traffic through the space.  Black granite contrasting with cherry cabinets and new wood flooring bring the room into the 21st century.”

Hendrick Kitchen

Before:
"Unneeded upper cabinets lined the south wall making the kitchen dark, a small center island blocked direct route to refrigerator, and  laminate countertops & vinyl flooring dated the space.”
  After:
"Replacing upper cabinets with 2 new windows allows more natural light, removing the center island and replacing it with a peninsula opens up traffic to the refrigerator and adds seating for the grandkids, and new granite countertops and hardwood flooring update the space.”
